Held every four years, the Canada Summer Games is a key event in the development of our athletes. As the best in their age group, these young competitors come to the Games having trained long and hard to be among those chosen to represent the Northwest Territories. Rising from medieval origins, soccer, or football, has grown into the most popular sport on the planet. Soccer has featured on every Canada Summer Games program since the first in 1969. Women’s soccer was added in 1993. Notable alumni include Olympians Karina Leblanc, Diana Matheson, Rhian Wilkinson, Ian Bridge, as well as 2024 Copa América hero Jacob Shaffelburg.
