The Yellowknife Futsal League (YKFL) is a community-driven initiative designed to provide a structured environment for futsal enthusiasts in Yellowknife, NT. Our league provides opportunities for both youth and adult players, fostering a love for the game in a fun, inclusive, and community-driven enivronment. The league aims to foster skill development, teamwork, and competition for youth and adult players. With league for both youth (ages 6-15) and adults (ages 16+), the league will run from January 4, 2025 to April 2025.

Youth Leagues 

The youth league will cater to youth and teens, starting from U8 through to U16. These divisions are designed to introduce young players to futsal and help them develop their skills in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Each age group focuses on building core futsal skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting, while promoting teamwork, disicpline, and sportsmanship.

Games will be held on Saturdays 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Adult League (16+)

The adult league of the YKFL is designed for players aged 16 and up, ranging fromr ecreational to competitive skill levels. Whether you are new to futsal or have years of experience, our league will provide you with a great way to stay active, improve your skills, and enjoy the camaraderie of team sports. 

Games will be held on Saturdays 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM or Mondays from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Futsal Skill Rating

ROOKIE (RATING 1-2)
Skill Level: Beginner level.
Description: Ideal for players new to futsal or those who find other divisions too challenging. This division focuses on learning the basic rules and skills. Teams here may consist of players who have little to no experience with the sport and are focused on understanding the game’s fundamentals.

RECREATIONAL (RATING 2-5)
Skill Level: Basic proficiency.
Description: A good fit for those still developing the essential skills of futsal. This level is suitable for players with limited experience or those who are newer to the sport but learning quickly. Teams should consist of approximately 65% players who fit this description, with a focus on fun and gradual skill improvement.

INTERMEDIATE (RATING 5-8)
Skill Level: Moderate proficiency.
Description: Players in this category have some organized experience, often having played futsal or soccer at the high school level. Players should have solid all-around skills and understand team strategies. Teams in this division are comfortable with the game and can implement tactical play, with about 65% of players fitting this level.

ADVANCED (RATING 8-9)
Skill Level: High proficiency.
Description: A high skill level is required for this division. Players should have significant experience and a strong grasp of the technical and tactical aspects of futsal. They are proficient in all aspects of the game, and fitness levels should be high. This category is for those who have played at a competitive level but may not be playing at their peak intensity.

COMPETITIVE (RATING 9-10)
Skill Level: Expert/Elite proficiency.
Description: This division is for highly skilled and experienced players who have competed at a high level, such as in leagues, college, or varsity teams. Players should have a deep understanding of advanced tactics and consistently perform at a high level in terms of both skill and fitness. This level is suited for those with a competitive mindset and excellent futsal IQ.
